Die neue europäische Chemikalienverordung REACH ist seit 1. Juni 2007 in Kraft. Die frühere Annahme „REACH wäre keine Kunststoffthema“, ist längst widerlegt. REACH geht alle Verwender von Chemikalien an und die Zeit drängt. Polymere selbst sind zwar noch weitgehend von REACH ausgenommen aber viele Zusatzstoffe (Weichmacher, Stabilisatoren, Farbstoffe) sind von der neuen Verordnung betroffen. Viele Firmen haben mittlerweile REACH-Beauftragte.
Allgemein kann man festhalten, dass die Kommunikation in der Lieferkette in größerem Umfang als bisher und in beide Richtungen gepflegt werden muss. Es gibt vielfältige Informationen im Internet. Der VCI bietet seinen Mitgliedern ab Juli 2007 einen Helpdesk mit FAQ-Liste. Auf der Seite der Kunststoffverbände kooperieren GKV und PlasticsEurope bezüglich der neuen Verordnung.

The new European Chemicals Regulation REACH has been in force since 1 June 2007. The earlier assumption that “REACH is irrelevant to plastics� has long been disproved. REACH concerns all users of chemicals and time is pressing. Although polymers themselves are still largely excluded from REACH, many additives (plasticizers, stabilisers, colorants) are affected by the new regulation. Many companies now have REACH commissioners.

Generally, it can be said that communication in the delivery chain must be maintained to a greater extent than in the past and in both directions. There is plenty of information on the internet. From July 2007 the VCI will offer its members a help desk with a list of FAQs. GKV and PlasticsEurope have been cooperating with respect to the new regulation on the side of the plastics associations.
